The Ultimate Guilt-Free Brownie

Looking for a guilt-free dessert without sacrificing taste? Meet your new best friend. These brownies really might change your life - they are 100% guilt free and your friends will never know the difference. In fact, most of my friends prefer these brownies to a traditional brownie with flour & sugar.

So what makes these brownies so different? The base of these brownies is almond butter, which is high in healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. Then we sweeten them with date paste and agave, both of which are low on the GI index, which means they won’t spike your blood sugar like traditional sweeteners will. Lastly, this recipe calls for cacao (the less processed version of cocoa) which is super high in antioxidants (more antioxidants than blueberries!) and full of minerals such as magnesium and zinc. Basically, I’m telling you these really are healthy brownies. And yes, you can eat the batter :)

The Ultimate Guilt-Free Brownie

  • 1 tbsp vanilla

  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed

  • 6 tbsp water

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350.

  2. Make the flax seed mixture - combine 2 tablespoons of ground flax seed with 6 tablespoons of water. Stir and allow it to sit while combining the rest of the wet ingredients.

  3. In a large bowl, combine the almond butter, vanilla, agave and date paste. Once combined, add the flax seed mixture.

  4. Add in salt, cinnamon and baking soda. Slowly add in cacao as your mixing the batter. This will be VERY thick, so I recommend using a hand mixer if you have one.

  5. Remove any batter from the mixer and stir in chocolate chips.

  6. Grease a 9x9 pan with coconut oil (I’ve used avocado oil and olive oil before too. butter would also be just fine). Pour in batter and smooth into an even layer.

  7. Bake brownies at 350 for 22-25 minutes, until the edges are starting to darken.

  8. Remove from oven and allow them to cool for at least 10 minutes before digging in. Enjoy!!
